This history of Alexander Tillander Jewellers and Goldsmiths dates back to 1860 when master goldsmith Alexander Edvard Tillander founded his company in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The era of uncertainty, which began with the outbreak of World War I, peaked with the Russian Revolution of 1917. The boutique in St. Petersburg was closed and the business moved to Helsinki.
In 1980, Alexander Tillander set up a gallery in the same premises where the boutique and atelier were already located. This gallery regularly hosts thematic shows that shed light on various aspects of the jeweller’s art.
When designing unique pieces of jewellery, Alexander Tillander cherishes and treasures the best traditions of artisanship of jewellers and goldsmiths. All jewellery is made by hand and is often designed in accordance with the customer’s wishes and preferences. Oftentimes, the design process starts with a gemstone that one of our own in-house experts has acquired. After that, our atelier designs and creates a unique piece of jewellery specifically for that gem. Our jewellery is sold at our boutique located at Aleksanterinkatu 17, right in the centre of Helsinki. Alexander Tillander’s gem laboratory, goldsmiths and highly professional staff have secured the company its current position as the leading jewellery company in Finland.
